Overview

Paracetamol 500 mg Tablet helps relieve mild-to-moderate pain and reduce fever by acting on the body's pain and temperature-regulating pathways.

Read the full description

Paracetamol 500 mg is an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) used to relieve mild-to-moderate pain and reduce fever. It is commonly used for headaches, toothaches, muscle aches, menstrual pain and fever associated with common illnesses.

Paracetamol is also known as acetaminophen. It can help relieve symptoms, but it does not treat the underlying cause of an infection

Uses & benefits

  1. Fever reduction.

  2. Headaches and tension headaches.

  3. Toothache and dental pain.

  4. Muscle aches and body pain.

  5. Menstrual cramps.

  6. Mild joint pain.

  7. Pain and fever associated with colds and flu.

  8. Minor aches and pains.

It provides symptomatic relief and does not cure the underlying illness.

  • Pain relief: Helps reduce mild-to-moderate pain.

Fever reduction: Helps lower an elevated body temperature.

Everyday symptom relief: May reduce headaches, body aches and menstrual discomfort.

Generally well tolerated: When taken at the recommended dose, it is usually well tolerated by many people.

Less stomach irritation: Compared with some anti-inflammatory painkillers, paracetamol generally causes less stomach irritation.

How it works

Paracetamol acts primarily within the central nervous system to reduce pain signalling and influence the brain’s temperature-regulating centre. This helps reduce the perception of pain and lower fever.

Unlike NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, paracetamol has relatively little anti-inflammatory activity at usual doses.

Side effects

Side effects are uncommon when paracetamol is used correctly, but possible effects include:

  • Nausea or vomiting.

  • Stomach discomfort.

  • Skin rash or itching.

  • Allergic reactions, rarely.

Important: Taking too much paracetamol can cause severe liver damage, even if you initially feel well. Seek emergency medical help immediately if an overdose is suspected; do not wait for symptoms to appear.

How to use

Take the tablet according to the package instructions or your healthcare professional’s advice.

Safety advice

  • Liver disease: Consult a doctor before use if you have liver problems.

  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol while taking paracetamol, particularly if you drink heavily or regularly, because of the risk of liver injury.

  • Other medicines: Do not combine multiple products containing paracetamol unless a healthcare professional confirms it is safe.

  • Blood thinners: If you take warfarin regularly, ask your healthcare professional before repeated or prolonged use.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Seek professional advice if you need to use it, especially repeatedly or for an extended period.

  • Persistent symptoms: Get medical advice if fever lasts more than a few days, pain persists or symptoms worsen.

  • Overdose: Get urgent medical attention immediately if more than the recommended amount is taken, even if there are no symptoms.

Storage

Keep in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
